Why Every Artist Was First An Apprentice

As an artist myself, I strongly believe that every artist must first start as an apprentice before becoming a master in their craft. It is a crucial step in the journey of self-discovery and growth as an artist.

Firstly, being an apprentice allows one to learn from experienced artists and gain valuable knowledge and skills. As an apprentice, I had the opportunity to observe and assist my mentor in their work. I learned different techniques, styles, and methods that I would not have otherwise discovered on my own. This hands-on experience was vital in shaping my artistic style and developing my skills.

Secondly, being an apprentice teaches discipline and patience. Art is not a skill that can be mastered overnight. It takes time, practice, and dedication to improve one’s craft. As an apprentice, I had to be patient with myself and my progress. It also taught me the importance of discipline in consistently working towards my goals.

Moreover, being an apprentice provides a safe space for experimentation and making mistakes. In the early stages of my apprenticeship, I was encouraged to explore different mediums and techniques without the pressure of producing perfect pieces. This allowed me to make mistakes and learn from them without any fear of judgment or failure

Set a budget for yourself before starting your search for a sketchbook with the phrase ‘Every Artist Was First An’. Remember that investing in a good quality sketchbook will not only enhance your artwork but also last longer.

Paper Quality

Binding

Sketchbooks come in various bindings such as spiral-bound, sewn-bound, or glue-bound. Consider how you will be using your sketchbook before choosing its binding. If you plan on working on detailed illustrations, a sewn-bound sketchbook will lay flat and allow you to work seamlessly. On the other hand, a spiral-bound sketchbook is perfect for quick sketches and doodles.

Cover Material

The cover material of a sketchbook can also play a significant role in its durability. If you plan on carrying your sketchbook around with you, opt for a hardcover sketchbook that can withstand wear and tear.
